Google engineers have discovered that many internet users will leave a website if it takes longer than 400 milliseconds- that’s how long it takes to blink your eyes! Picture Google- it’s one of the simplest, fastest-loading websites on the planet- and that’s for a good reason. The NY Times explains.

Plus, a web page is more valuable to advertisers if there is not a lot of clutter on it. In fact, readers like that too. It’s important to guide your readers, and help them stay focused. If you want them to click on a certain link, that link should be the only choice they have- or one of just a few.

Many people don’t know this, but the US government allows people and businesses to use a lot of its content. Just about anything you see on a US Government website is considered Public Domain- meaning, you can freely copy and use all of the content, from the pictures and text, right up to the web templates.
